Artificial Intelligence Photonics 2023

From September 11th to 14th, NEUROPIC partially sponsored and co-organized a conference focused on the interplay between photonics and artificial intelligence in Donosti-San Sebastian. The conference was organized by Prof. Cefe López with the help of Dr. P. David García – both researchers from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the institution coordinating the NEUROPIC project – with the additional collaboration of Dr. Aitzol García-Etxarri from the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) in San Sebastian.

The conference focused on the different approaches of photonic systems to implement hardware for artificial intelligence. There were also contributions on algorithms to treat and optimize different tasks and technologies in the field of optics and photonics. Invited speakers included Thomas Bocklitz (Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena, Germany), Sylvain Gigan (Sorbonne Université, CNRS, France), Wolfram H. Pernice (Physics Institute, Center for NanoTechnology, Germany) and Paul R. Prucnal (Princeton University, USA), among others. One of the major goals of NEUROPIC is to develop a novel platform exploiting integrated silicon photonics as a hardware for artificial intelligence. NEUROPIC has been represented in the conference by Dr. Søren Stobbe, from Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU), who shared the cutting-edge fabrication achievements of his group.
